The Elephant Leaned on My Chest. Thank God he didn’t Sit.
A 100-word story about warnings our body gives us. Sometimes. I was one of the lucky ones. Instead of the elephant sitting on my chest, he just leaned.
Pressure on the inside of both biceps.
That’s how I knew I was having a heart attack at 48-years-old.
It was an odd pressure,
One that made me raise my arms and shake them like a swimmer does.
My cardiologist called it my signature ‘tell’,
My own unique warning.
We all have one, a tell that is.
But some of us will never learn what ours is.
Instead of leaning on your chest,
The elephant will sit.
And you’ll never even know what happened.
But thank God, I got a warning.
I got to change my life before he sat.
