Is it so bad that I hate the news? I know it sounds terrible at first, like I'm sticking my head in the sand. But maybe it's not. Maybe it's one of the smartest things I've done.
“Manage my emotional reserves well.” I love this and something I am actively pursuing in my life, as well! I also don’t watch the news - don’t even have cable anymore! 😄
I loved this. I feel the same way as you and Joyce. I do not like the news at all, sometimes I feel like my head is in the sand. That is how I live my life, I stay positive without all that negativity in my life. Thank you for your view in your article. Julie Costanzo
Amen sister! Let me gleefully, ignorantly go to my happy place and the rest of the world can wring their hands, shout at the TV, and scream at the radio.
I do read the news, but I pace myself. There are great people out there fighting the battles where I just have no power. All I can do is focus on that tiny part of the big picture where I can actually make a difference.
I haven't watched the news for years now. It's so freeing! It's like takng the blinders off and seeing the world for what it really is. Not what they want you to think it is.
I am currently in Gozo (Malta) where I spend half my time. The only US News is what I serve myself. I am decidedly more peaceful for it. But I still serve up a small, steaming plate of curated news-crap about once a day. Like a duty. Or a chore.
In the US, where my mom’s TV plays The View, local news, national news (both of which I refer to as The Body Count), and various murder shows, I begin to feel as if I’m suffocating in the worst of humanity and the demise of planet earth.
Even if we are on a path to extinction, I’m better off not knowing, focusing on my various joy-coaxing practices, and then going the way of all of us when my number is called. A compatriot emerging from a health scare this week referred to our shared destination as the only fair thing. And then said what we often say to each other here. “This is life” or simply “Life.” Just as when the heat has enveloped us and steams us like human veg we simply say “It’s hot.” Or say nothing at all.
You’ve inspired me.
Perhaps I will unsubscribe from my daily news roll-up (aka steaming pile of crap with a human-interest daisy planted like a flag atop it).

I don't pay much attention to the news, either. One can take only so much negativity - and no more.

Yes that is what I say also.

I couldn't agree more. Focus where I can make a diff. My attitude as well.

Amen, well put!
